Everyone from Leelanau, Benzie, Grand Traverse and Antrim Counties intrested in stopping the war should attend!
Plans will be made for opposing the Cherry Festival’s decision to host military attack helicopters at the 2007 Cherry Festival. Plans will also be made for activities for March 17, 2007, the 4th Year of the War on Iraq. Further discussion will be held on ways to continue to put pressure on our representatives to cut the funding for the war. e.g. workshops, lobbying in DC, civil disobedience at local offices.

Bush supporters are searching dip for an edge and it appears they are bringing out the questionable rallying cry that Iraq war protesters are spatting on Iraq War vets. The claim has many non-believers .
On the Media (listen online) took a short look at the claims and brought in Sociologist Jerry Lembcke, of “The Spitting Myth” fame to help better understand the broader social perspective of such claims.

Monday Feb. 5 at 7 PM at Traverse Area District Library with MidEast:JustPeace
Emmy Lou Cholak will talk and show slides about her November trip to Israel and Palestine. She went with a group called Compassionate Listening, where they visit and learn of the issues and problems thru individual stories and situations. She visited Jerusalem, Haifa, Lebanon border, a kibbutz, and more in Israel; and Bi’lin, Hebron, a Jewish settlement, a Palestinian refuge camp, a Hamas run village in the West Bank, Palestine. She has been given the mission to share what she heard and learned. Donations are welcomed to help with several of the peace projects that we listened, Al-Arroub Refugee Camp and Hope Flowers Secondary School.

Impeachment cheaper?
I support Sen. Levin and other Senate and congressional representatives’ multi-faceted efforts to derail the Bush/Cheney escalation of the war on Iraq and to demand congressional approval before mounting any attack against Iran or Syria.
Although the executive branch dismisses overwhelming public disapproval of the war and ignores military advisors’ skepticism over a surge in forces, its anticipated discounting of the upcoming bipartisan vote of no-confidence for the latest war plans should be the last strike.
At that point I urge our representatives to cut all funding for the war, except those necessary to accomplish a six-month withdrawal of U.S. forces and to cover the Veterans Administration Health Care system for all military veterans.
We cannot recoup the $344 billion spent on this disaster since 2001, but we surely can put the anticipated Iraq war price tag of $8.4 billion a month for this year to much better use. How much would impeachment cost?
